Moving over

Coming from Plex, Emby or Jellyfin? Leyla brings your house across in one step of its setup, and the old server keeps running, untouched, until you’re sure.

What comes across

People
Every account. From Emby and Jellyfin with their passwords; Plex signs people in at plex.tv, so each Plex person gets a link to choose a password.
Libraries
One Leyla library for each film and television library, pointed at the same folders.
History
What everyone watched, and where they stopped.
Favourites
Each person’s own.
Playlists
In their order, even when a playlist spans two libraries.

Posters and details aren’t copied: Leyla fetches its own from its plugins. Music and photo libraries stay behind.

The old server is safe

Leyla only reads the old server’s files, through a read-only mount, and never writes to them or to your media. Keep both running side by side as long as you like. Running the import again is safe too: what already came across isn’t made twice, and a watch record never replaces a newer one.

How to move

  1. Let Leyla read the old server’s files

    Add one line to the volumes in Leyla’s compose file, read-only, for the server you’re leaving:

    Plex
          - "/path/to/Plex Media Server:/import/plex:ro"
    Emby
          - /path/to/emby/config:/import/emby:ro
    Jellyfin
          - /path/to/jellyfin/config:/import/jellyfin:ro

    For Plex, that’s the folder called Plex Media Server; a linuxserver/plex config volume works whole. For Jellyfin, the config folder holding data/.

  2. Mount your media too

    Under /media, as usual. The paths don’t have to match the old server’s: Leyla finds each library’s folder by looking for one of its files, so a server that saw /data/tv still lines up with Leyla’s /media/tv.

  3. Start Leyla and answer “Coming from another server?”

    The setup’s third question. Choose the server; Leyla shows what it found and the button says what it will bring. If a mount is missing, it shows the exact line to add. If it sees two servers mounted, it says so and brings the one you choose.

  4. Let the libraries scan

    History, favourites and playlists land as each library is scanned and its titles are recognised, so on a big library they fill in as the scan goes.

Plex Plex’s database is busy while Plex runs. If Leyla says it can’t read it, stop Plex for a minute and try again.
