Deleting a Leyla account

How to delete your account in the Leyla app and the data that goes with it, and how to ask us to delete what we hold.

Where your account is

The account you sign in to the Leyla app with lives on a Leyla server that you or your household run, not with us. We can’t see it, so we can’t delete it. You can delete it yourself in the app, and whoever looks after that server (its administrator) can delete it too.

If someone else runs the server you use, ask them to delete your account.

In the app

You can delete your own account in the Leyla app on Android and Android TV, or in the web app:

  1. Open your account

    Go to Your account and scroll to Delete account.

  2. Delete it

    Choose Delete account…, enter your password, then choose Delete my account.

You are signed out straight away and the account can’t be recovered. If you are your server’s only administrator, it can’t be deleted until someone else is an administrator too.

On a Leyla server

An administrator deletes an account like this, in the web app or the Android app:

  1. Find the person

    Open Administration, then People, and choose them under Accounts.

  2. Delete the account

    Choose Delete user… from their account’s menu.

  3. Confirm

    Type their username, then choose Delete user.

This removes the account and signs out all of its devices straight away. It can’t be undone. A server always keeps at least one administrator, so the last one can’t be deleted.

To stop someone signing in without deleting anything, choose Disable account from the same menu instead.

What is deleted

Deleting an account deletes, at once and for good:

  • the username, the password and the profile PIN;
  • every signed-in device and its sign-in;
  • where you stopped, what you watched, your saved titles, favourites and playlists;
  • your playback history and settings, and your audio and subtitle choices;
  • your notifications and your downloads list;
  • everything the server learnt to recommend titles to you.

Two things stay. Requests you made stay in the household’s queue with your name taken off them, shown as from “a former member”. The server’s change log, which records what administrators did, keeps the username on its entries, including the deletion itself, for up to a year. Backups the server made before the deletion still hold the account until the administrator deletes them.

Your films and the rest of the library are not touched.

On your device

Signing out of the app removes your sign-in from the device. Uninstalling the app removes the rest: the server’s address, your settings and any films you downloaded.

What we hold

We hold data of our own in three cases. Write to us from the email address it is under, say which of these you want deleted, and we will delete it and tell you when it’s done.

  • A beta seat: your email, and the film you named if you did.
  • A Leyla account: the email you sign in with at licence.leyla.media, the servers you linked to it, and your plan.
  • A plugin publisher: your GitHub id and username, and your display name on the plugin store.

Records of payments that tax law requires us to keep (the plan, the dates and Polar’s order number) stay for as long as it requires, and are used for nothing else. Polar keeps its own records of your payments; see Polar’s privacy policy.

Write to hi@tropicalthink.com.

The privacy policy says what each of these holds and for how long.
