Backups and recovery
A dead disk, a stolen box, a folder deleted by mistake. A sealed backup brings back your people, what each of them watched and everything the server worked out about your files, ready the moment it is restored.
Before anything happens
-
Make a recovery code
In the setup, or under Administration, Settings, Backups. It is shown once. Keep it away from the server: written down, in a password manager, saved as a file somewhere else.
-
Keep a copy off the machine
Choose Leyla’s cloud (included with a plan), a folder of your own on a NAS or a USB disk, or both. Every copy is sealed on the server before it is written anywhere.
- Every hour
- What people did since the last backup goes to the copy, so a lost server loses an hour at most.
- Your devices
- Every signed-in app keeps a sealed copy of the latest changes too, and gives it back after a restore.
The server is gone
-
Install Leyla on the new machine
As the install guide says, with your media mounted under
/media. -
Choose “Moving from another Leyla?”
Then Restore from Leyla’s cloud and enter your recovery code. From Leyla’s cloud, link the new server to your Leyla account first. From a folder, give its path. From a download, choose the file.
-
That is all
People sign in as before. What they watched, their lists and every result the server had worked out come back with it: nothing is fetched again title by title and no job queue fills up.
- After a plan ends
- The backups in Leyla’s cloud are kept at least 90 days. Download them from your account at
licence.leyla.media; the file restores the same way.
The films and shows are gone too
Titles whose files are gone stay in your library as missing; nothing is deleted. Under Administration, Settings, Backups, Get back what’s missing asks your Sonarr and Radarr for them, what is being watched first, and for the same release they downloaded before. The same release is the same file, so everything the server knew about it comes back with it. It works the same after a dead disk or a deleted folder, without a restore.
Something was undone by mistake
Somebody marked a whole series watched, or a list was emptied. Under Administration, Settings, Backups, Go back to a moment: pick the minute, see how many changes would be taken back, and confirm. Accounts, settings and the libraries stay as they are, and Undo takes it back.
The recovery code
It is the only way into your backups. We never see it, and nobody at Leyla can open a backup or make a new code for it. A lost code means the backups cannot be opened, by you or by us. The server goes on working without it; only a restore needs it. Keep it twice, in two places away from the server.
