The beta

Leyla is in beta: it works, it is used every night, and some screens are still waiting for their store. This page says what you need, where each app comes from until then, and how to tell us what broke.

What you need

Your ownLeyla plays the films and shows you already have. It has no catalogue of its own and sells or rents nothing.

A server
Leyla's server, running on a computer of yours that stays on: a Linux PC, a NAS that runs Docker, or a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5. Two cores and 2 GB of memory are enough; it plays files as they are whenever the screen can. Install has every way, step by step.
Your media
Your films and shows as files on that computer or on a share it can read.
A screen
Any browser works from the start: the server serves the web app. The other apps are below.

Not in a release yet: a server installer for Windows or macOS. A Windows or Mac computer can watch; the server runs on Linux, a NAS or a Pi for now.

The apps during the beta

Each app asks for your server's address, or finds it on your home network. TVs sign in with a code you approve on your phone (how).

What plays where

Servers whose operators said yes send one report a day: how many plays went directly, were converted, stalled or failed, by kind of device and kind of file, as bucketed counts with nothing that says which server sent them. What plays where shows the combined counts. A server sends nothing unless its administrator turns reports on, in the setup or in Settings.

Reporting a problem

Write to hi@tropicalthink.com with the server's version, the screen and app you watched on, the file that played, and what happened.
